Service
For my Service, I volunteer at my mixed martial arts center for one hour before my own class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I work in about a five to twenty student class. Since the first class is consists of white belts to yellow-black belts, the material taught is basic. Once the students are awarded their green belts, they move to the second class, where content becomes intermediate to advanced.
I am a first-degree black belt. I have been doing karate for eight years. The instructor, who is in charge at the center, is Sensei Sonja, a fourth degree black belt. My job is to be the ūke, or the person who "receives" a technique. This demonstrates the proper way to fall.
Learning Outcome: 5
Demonstrate skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively
"Collaboration can be shown in many different activities, such as team sports, playing music in a band, or helping in a kindergarten. You are able to identify, demonstrate and critically discuss the benefits and challenges of collaboration gained through CAS experiences."
I interact with many students when teaching them, and learn to teach in different ways. Teaching students has also improved my own technique.
